		From your hotel we travel to the historic railway station of the suburb of Freshwater and wait for the Kuranda Train.
		Meanwhile, we have a look at the station’s impressive restaurant pavilion with integrated 90 year old railway carriages.
		Lynch’s Cottage – the genuine railway worker's cottage, was home to Red Lynch, the Foreman who oversaw the building of the first section of the line.
		The Museum is dedicated to the building of the railway, provides an interpretive replication of the railway and includes an interactive educational display on the history of Cairns and the construction of the Kuranda Scenic Railway.
		Old photographs reflect the life of the families of the railway workers, who moved along the track with the progress of its construction.

		The train’s loco is painted with ‘Buda Dji Dreaming’, the story of the Rainbow Serpent, by Aboriginal artist George Riley.
		Whilst the wagons of the ordinary class do not provide special comfort and are often crowded, you travel in the exclusive “Gold Class” and enjoy splendid views from each seat and the excellent service of the friendly staff.
		At first, the journey takes you through Cairns suburbs and along fields of sugar cane.
		At the „Horseshoe Bend“ the train gains momentum to tackle the long climb 240 m higher to the town of Kuranda.
		The track winds through tropical rainforest.
		15 tunnels had to be dug out, not with bulldozers, jackhammers and other modern equipment, but with strategy, fortitude, hand tools, dynamite, buckets and bare hands.
		In some places, gaps in the rainforest allow spectacular views towards the coast.
		The famous Stoney Creek trestle bridge is an engineering feat of tremendous magnitude.
		Here, the train reduces its speed to give you plenty of time for taking photos.
